ReScape Heat Qualification Training (HQT) - Online + Onsite Practicum

Time: 9 am - 3:00 pm  

The first three training days will be conducted in a live, online format. The final training day will be an in-person practicum work day.

ReScape’s new training, the Heat Qualification Training (HQT) provides landscape professionals with the background, technical training and tools to address and mitigate the expected and ongoing increases in local and regional temperatures. Rooted in each of ReScape’s 8 Principles, you will learn about regenerative landscape practices and policies to tackle the challenges posed by our changing climate and safeguard local watersheds, conserve precious resources, and foster the growth of native habitats. The training includes methodologies in urban and community forestry, regenerative planting strategies and tree care protocols.

The HQT is offered as a 4-day course (3 days classroom and 1 day practicum) and provides professionals with:  
  • An understanding of the causes, implications and possible mitigation measures we can employ in our cities from expected steady increased temperatures  
  • Technical information regarding local and state ordinances and policies that address climate change and hotter temperatures 
  • A holistic approach following ReScape’s regenerative, whole systems framework to the design and construction of public and private landscapes, specifically to address increased heat effects in our cities and landscapes  
  • A deeper understanding of plant and tree physiology and ability of specific plants to survive and adapt to hotter and drier environments  
  • Hands-on participation in a community-based urban forestry event  
  • Tools and resources for choosing materials and technologies that sequester carbon more quickly, and decrease GHG emissions 
  • Tools and techniques for establishing design and maintenance guides    
  • Competitive advantage as a ReScape Heat Qualified Professional and leader in the landscape design and maintenance marketplace, including assisting public agencies in implementing their Climate Action and Community Resilience Plans.  
  • Continuing Education Units for external certifications and qualifications from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) and more. CEUs pending approval.
