Climate change has already led to approximately 1.8°F (1°C) of average global warming. This seemingly small increase has driven a significant rise in record highs and extremely hot days. Weather stations around the world are documenting an alarming surge in extreme heat events and record-high temperatures. In 2024, Earth's average surface temperature reached its highest level since recordkeeping began in 1880, according to NASA/GISS. These findings align with independent analyses by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other research groups, indicating that Earth was about 2.45°F (1.36°C) warmer in 2024 than in the preindustrial late 19th century (1850-1900). The past decade has been the warmest on record. ReScape’s Heat Qualification Training (HQT) addresses the profound impacts of this warming on landscapes and communities. Integrating ReScape’s 8 Principles, you will learn about regenerative landscape practices, tools and protocols to tackle these climate challenges, safeguard local watersheds, conserve resources, and promote native habitats. The training encompasses emerging regenerative tools and technologies, innovative planting strategies, and urban forestry practices to mitigate heat. Benefits of Heat Qualification Training The HQT is offered as a 4-day live online course and equips professionals with:
• Understanding the Causes and Implications of Rising Temperatures: Learn about the expected steady increase in temperatures, implications and mitigation measures we can employ in our cities. • Technical Information on Policies and Ordinances: Gain insights into local and state policies addressing climate change and extreme heat. • Holistic Approach to Landscape Design: Apply ReScape’s regenerative, whole systems framework to design and construct landscapes that address increased heat effects. • Knowledge of Plant and Tree Physiology: Understand the ability of specific plants to survive and adapt to hotter and drier environments. • Hands-on Community Engagement: Participate in a community-based urban forestry event, enhancing practical skills. • Tools and Resources for Carbon Sequestration: Learn to choose materials and technologies that sequester carbon more quickly and reduce GHG emissions. • Establishment of Design and Maintenance Guides: Develop tools and techniques for creating effective design and maintenance guides. • Competitive Advantage: Become a ReScape Heat Qualified Professional, leading in landscape design and maintenance, and assisting public agencies with Climate Action and Community Resilience Plans.
